AN OPEN LETTER TO YONKERS VOTERS

Friday, September 4, 2026
Dear Yonkers Voters,
We’ve decided to send this notice now -- 60 days and a Wake-Up away from the crucial November 3 Midterm Election --- rather than wait until you show up that night.
My name is Debbie Kozak, Club President and co-founder of the Northwest Yonkers Republican Club.
This club was founded in 2023 right after the November election with our first meeting being held at the Catholic Slovak Club on 49 Lockwood Ave. on a cold, wintery night in January 2024.
Twenty-four people came out and attended that inaugural meeting -- people who were sick and tired of the same old, same old... disgusted with the state of our city, our state and even the trajectory of our country at that time. All of us - it's fair to say - wanted to move all three in a new direction - not just for ourselves and families, but also our community.
Our bond was formed that night, and our NW Yonkers community has grown on the 2nd Monday of every month, even during the summer, for the past 2.5 years. They say all politics starts at the local level. But what does that mean?
For us it means building the GOP from the bottom up. A grassroots effort.
If that sounds foreign to you, I'm sorry to say...
It's because the Republican Party leadership right here in NY, our city and county, has put the electorate into a deep funk.
A sleep so deep that some of us have forgotten what's important— to GET OUT AND VOTE!
Thankfully Donald Trump came back in 2023 to run for reelection in 2024, giving the Republican party another chance to right the country on the Federal level.
This club has been an antidote, a massive dose of caffeine, if you will, to our 30% status quo leaders.
We've registered hundreds -- hundreds [!] of Republicans including those who've changed their party affiliation from Democrat and "NON" to Republican.
We've door-knocked on hundreds of homes, right here in NW Yonkers and throughout the city, sharing our collective message of change with the system that's been intentionally broken.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Our club's membership has grown by a factor of 10 with new people from our community joining us each month.
Our monthly newsletter reaches many members who are home-bound and can't attend monthly meetings. The feedback has been incredible.
THIS CLUB IS MOVING FULL-STEAM AHEAD.
On Monday, September 14th at 6:30pm (Doors open at 6pm --- DON’T BE LATE[!]) we're going to introduce the men and women who have stepped up, and into the arena, to run for public office.
As a former candidate myself I can tell you there are great things about running --- meeting folks, listening to their concerns and knowing deep down that you could, and would, if given the opportunity, make a positive impact on their lives.
For years, Democrats have occupied the very offices --- and still do --- of the candidates you're going to meet.
These Democrats, now calling themselves Democrat Socialists, have promised to make our lives better (as socialists always do) - to lower our cost of living, provide lower healthcare costs, lower energy costs, reduce crime and get criminals off the street.
That's what they'll tell their constituents they'll do to get their vote. I'm sure the people who cast their votes for the Democrats are hopeful that maybe --- just maybe --- this time the politicians will get it right. I say that they haven't earned any of our votes. Not one bit. Our cost of living has gone up due to an increase in taxes at the state and local levels due to their piss-poor mismanagement of we, the taxpayers’ monies.
Energy bills have skyrocketed, thanks to the absolutely stupid closing of Indian Point power plant before having a new functioning energy source online.
Would anyone reading this letter cut the power to his or her own house before he/she had a new utilities provider ready to go?
Of course not, that would be detrimental to his/her family.
Governor Cuomo, as well as Hijab Hochul, Andrea Stewart-Cousins and all the Democrat-controlled State Assembly thought it was a great idea and voted for the closure of the very source of power that provided energy for all of Westchester and many NYC residents, with nothing in place to replace it.
Fun fact: none of our local officials, that we know of, use solar panels for their own residences. But of course, they want you to get them.
The Democrats' "Green New Deal" has been a massive failure.
Thanks to the Trump administration cutting off monies to fund this silly initiative, the "Green New Deal" is coming to a grinding halt.
No "free" Federal money = No "Green New Deal". Has the "global crisis" ended (in their minds)? Hell no; just its funding source.
In case you haven't noticed quality of life in our community has been on a downward spiral for years, despite our taxes going up every year.
Equitable funding for our kids' education has been neglected. Violent criminals are being released back onto the streets, thanks to the Democrats' cashless bail and so-called turn-them-loose "bail reform" policy.
It's sickening what's happened to the former “Empire State.”
I've recently traveled the country and haven't met anyone who said they're interested in visiting NY -- a sad, sad commentary on the state of our once great Empire State.
On Monday, September 14th we're going to hear from the Republican candidates – headlined by Joseph Hernandez for NYS Comptroller -- who have a clear vision to make NYS great again.
Yes, they want "GREAT” for all of us!
September 14th will be about inspiring us -- yes, inspiring us INTO ACTION. What a concept!
I am hereby inviting all voters – Republicans, Conservatives, Democrats, Independents & Nonaffiliated to listen to these fresh start candidates and consider voting them into office.
This important forum will be live streamed via the club’s NW Yonkers Republican Club Facebook page.
You may also attend in-person (get your raincoat ready, just in case!) in the rear entrance to the Catholic Slovak Club at 49 Lockwood Avenue.
Think about where you are now, and who’s to blame (Democrats!) for that. Then, who will best represent you going forward.
I’m looking forward to a jam-packed meeting on Monday, September 14th. Doors will open at 6pm for mingling and refreshments.
See you there!
