Statement from Debbie Kozak, President of the John P. O’Leary Northwest Yonkers Republican Club, regarding NYS Election Law Enforcement Determination

An anonymous complaint was filed with the Division of Election Law Enforcement (DELE) on April 5^th, 2025. The complaint was not only determined to be baseless, it was a transparent attempt to undermine our grassroots civic engagement through misinformation and intimidation.

The John P. O’Leary Northwest Yonkers Republican Club was formed in December 2023, with the sole purpose of fostering dialogue, community service, and political awareness among residents of Northwest Yonkers. It was done so with the knowledge, and support of both the County GOP Chairman Doug Colety & Yonkers City Committee Chairman Bob Moffitt; Each who have attended our meetings, events and promoted on the official GOP calendar.

The allegations that the Club misused the term “Republican” or violated campaign finance laws were not only factually incorrect, but legally irrelevant, as confirmed by the DELE’s own findings.

The determination issued by the State Board of Elections makes clear:

No consent is required under New York State Election Law to use the name of a political party in forming a club.
No evidence was presented to support the claim that the Club engaged in election-related fundraising or expenditures.
No violation of campaign finance law occurred, and no enforcement action is warranted.

This matter is now closed. It should never have been filed.

I will not be deterred by those who wish to disparage me/us and attempt to thwart our club’s mission:

To keep fellow Republicans in Northwest Yonkers informed about the voting records/decisions of our elected representatives and ensure they align with the interests of our community.

I remain committed to continuing to build an inclusive, transparent, and lawful political space (no membership dues since its inception) where we can engage freely and respectfully.

Those who seek to silence or sabotage our efforts through shadow complaints should take note: truth and integrity prevailed.
